I would clip if the bird was very fearful, panicked at the idea of stepping up, that sort of thing. If he is stepping up with millet and is a little nervous, that is quite normal. The more little sessions you do, the quicker he will get used to it and you can gradually forego the millet. If it really doesn’t work, you can always have a light clip done later.
@CVersailles right now, my budgie, who is 10 weeks,is able to climb on my finger, but seems to be a little nervous and needs millet to do it. Should I clip his wings to help the taming process or carry on with him being flighted?
At the very beginning, yes, when he was just a baby arriving from the petshop. This reduces chances of injury and the initial taming is much easier. The wings grow back after the first moult, so it is important to have « step-up without biting » well understood before the moult occurs… (Anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months…) Babi has never had the wings clipped after that initial period.

Ok, I was just checking. He is such a sweet little bird and my 2 males aren’t nearly that sweet, but my female was. I guess it just depends more on personality rather than gender, huh? Have fun with him and God bless!
In these pastel recessive pied mutations (no lines on the head), the cere is the opposite of ordinary budgies: male lavender and female blue or blueish… There is NO DOUBT that Babi is a male! Thanks for stopping by!
Hello! Just wanna say that your birdy is very cute first of all. I would also like to ask, do you know for sure that Babi is a boy, cuz his cere is pink and I’ve had both males and females. Females are usually the ones that are as sweet as your little friend seems to be. I am just curious, that’s all!
Hee, hee… We have to find more « challenging » cups to turn over for Babi, as he has absolutely no trouble with those…

His real mother tongue is Budgie, his human mother tongue is French, and his human second language is English! Babi will be 5 in September 2010.
